There was water, crisps, chocolate in the room on arrival. Lovely touch. We stayed there for a night out so we didn't spend much time in the room. But it was exactly what we needed.

The Pembroke was to advise that they had made a mistake with their booking so the additional room was not needed and a credit was to be made to my account. This did not happen so we did not stay here. The credit has not arrived yet. This should have happened weeks ago. We did not stay at this hotel and the room night has not been credited.

Spirited Kilkenny was Ireland’s capital in the Middle Ages and although many monuments remain from back then, it’s now best known for the 'craic'. Kilkenny cream ale flows in pubs forming part of its legendary nightlife and tours of Smithwick’s showcase Ireland’s oldest operating brewery, on grounds containing the St Francis Abbey ruins.
Kilkenny has the most medieval churches in Ireland. Dating to the 13th-century are the Black Abbey and St Canice’s Cathedral, next to the Round Tower - the only remains of a 9th-century monastery founded by the saint.
Medieval streets, inns and wall remnants still stand, but the most impressive attraction is Kilkenny Castle, in large gardens by the River Nore. The 3-turreted fortress was a former home of the once powerful Butler family.
The Parade leads from here past high street shops to The Tholsel – the porticoed town hall. The Elizabethan merchants’ residence Rothe House is in a similar style. Wandering the colourful streets you can’t fail to notice buildings named after cats, a reference to the residents’ dogged determination. Local hurling team The Cats play at Nowlan Park, and the city hosts the annual Cat Laughs comedy festival, amongst others.
Booking.com’s Kilkenny accommodation includes hotels with spas and pools, and city centre guest houses near the train station.

The imposing Norman castle complex which is 900+ years old is largely intact and well worth a visit even if you think you are not a 'history person'. Guided tour is worthwhile. Also visit the artists workshops in the stables complex opposite as well as adjacent park and gardens.
After the castle go to the related St. Canice's Cathedral. The streets between still have a historic character with old buildings and shop fronts and plenty of places to shop, eat and drink with a predominance of independent traders. Kilkenny is compact and easy to walk round but people with mobility difficulties should check as some parts are steep or served by steps. Kilkenny is close to the main motorway network and would make a good touring base.

We visited for a boys weekend away, 9 years after our last visit and it did not disappoint. So many great independent bars to work your way through, all in close proximity, most with an authentic Iriah feel to them. As usual, the Irish welcome is excellent with live music on tap too. Great place for a boozy weekend.

An old medieval town that is not overly touristed.
An old medieval town that is not overly touristed. Lots of lively pubs with friendly local people. I enjoy late night walks and this city seemed completely safe to enjoy at all hours. If you have a car the Rock of Cashel is about an hour away and well worth the trip.
Recently we found ourselves needing accommodation due to an emergency in the nearby hospital. We first met Linda at reception who was so kind and caring and couldn’t do enough for us. We had to stay two nights and all the staff were so nice. Such a lovely hotel, delicious food served by lovely staff again. We are forever grateful to the kindness shown to us during a difficult time. Thank you all at Kilkenny House Boutique Hotel 🩷
The check in process was simple and plenty of free parking on site. Every employee that I encountered was extremely pleasant. The included breakfast was excellent with the option to order a dish or buffet style. My kids really liked the petting zoo in back of the hotel. It’s a nice touch and not something you see at hotels. Newpark hotel is the perfect place to stay if you’re in Kilkenny.
Generally it was very clean despite the age of the place. Staff were very good and efficient. Breakfast was great. Nice, hot cooked breakfast with plenty of choices.
Nice, pleasant bar with a fine selection of drinks. Bar food and evening menu are available too.
City centre location. Good WiFi and free parking at the rear of the hotel.
The food in the bar was really good. The staff very nice and attencious, very hard working even with the low staffing. The cocktails Cosmo and Strawberry Daiquiri is a must. It was our Anniversary and they really looked after us. Location only 5 min away from city centre. Bed very comfy.
We had dinner Friday night and Saturday Night. The food was amazing you could not fault it. Portion sizes were great value for money, even the kids portions were great for the price. The location of the hotel was perfect, you can walk to the city centre. We really enjoyed our stay.
The layout of the apartment was great, the rooms were spacious with great views of the city. Easy access to the station, shopping centre and city centre was a bonus.
It was clean and lovely little touches like butter and jam sachets, but the scones were a very welcome treat.
The location of the Pembroke hotel was perfect. It was within walking distance to all the city cites and the train station. The room was really nice with a comfy king size bed. We had a view of the Kilkenny Castle outside our window. We loved our stay at the Pembroke Hotel.
Location was convenient. It is across the bridge from the Miracle Mile so less than 5 min walk. The room (suite) was very large with a large bed, bathroom, sofa, desk, wardrobe. The hotel has free parking which was appreciated.
Convenient location. On the river across from Kilkenny castle.
Our room did not look like the one pictured. But, it appeared that a portion of the hotel had been remodeled. Staff was great. Breakfast was good.
Fantastic location, right in the city centre. Triple room was v spacious, huge double bed. Beautiful artwork on the walls, lovely garden out the back with direct access to the Kilkenny Design studios.
Friendly host, lovely breakfast basket (COVID restrictions in place when visited). Short walk to the castle (you can get in through the park, so it's shorter than it looks) and town centre.
Liza the host was great she met us at he bus stop on a rainy afternoon to show us to the apartment and get us settled in Great Location was easy walking to everywhere in the city centre
Beautiful hotel and accommodations. Large spacious rooms and baths. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Our last few nights in Ireland and a wonderful way to end our trip.
Very clean and comfortable rooms. A very modern and well kept hotel. Excellent value. Located within an industrial park so lots of parking and close to the centre of town.
